Vieux Farka Touré has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices in modern African music. As he returns to Cosmopolite following his last visit in 2024, he brings a sound that both carries the legacy of Mali and looks firmly ahead.
Born in Niafunké and the son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré, he found his own path into music—first in secret, and later with his father’s blessing. Today, he stands strong as an artist with a clear and independent identity, where the roots of desert blues meet elements of rock, jazz, and other African traditions.
Through albums such as Fondo, The Secret, Mon Pays, and Les Racines, he has developed a sound that is both grounded and exploratory. Collaborations with artists like Toumani Diabaté, John Scofield, Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, and Khruangbin highlight the breadth of his work.
At the same time, he is more than a musician. Through his humanitarian efforts and his commitment to Mali’s cultural life, he has become a strong voice for the people and region he comes from—adding further depth to an already rich artistic practice.
Still, it’s on stage that something truly happens. Vieux Farka Touré is known for high-energy performances and a strong sense of presence, where his guitar playing drives the music forward with both power and precision.
As he returns to our stage, this will be a concert where the guitar takes center stage—driven by groove, interplay, and a sound that resonates just as strongly live as it does on record.
