A unique evening with Maciej Obara Quartet feat. Mathias Eick

For the first time, the Polish–Scandinavian quartet led by saxophonist Maciej Obara expands its line-up, inviting internationally acclaimed trumpeter Mathias Eick to join the ensemble. Together with Dominik Wania (piano), Ole Morten Vågan (double bass) and Gard Nilssen (drums), five of Europe’s most distinctive jazz voices will meet on the same stage.

The concert at Cosmopolite marks the premiere of an entirely new repertoire — written specifically for this collaboration. The result is an expressive and dynamic musical landscape that both renews and amplifies the quartet’s unique character. Obara’s quartet has previously released three critically acclaimed albums on ECM Records: Unloved, Three Crowns and Frozen Silence.

Mathias Eick — known for albums such as The Door, Midwest, Ravensburg and When We Leave — contributes his unmistakably lyrical tone and sense of spaciousness, qualities that have made him one of Norway’s most renowned jazz artists. In dialogue with Obara’s intense and poetic expression, new sonic possibilities emerge — ranging from melodic openness to explosive rhythmic drive.

This will be a rare opportunity to experience a brand-new chapter in modern European jazz — presented for the very first time in Norway.
