The Harlem Spirit of Gospel by Anthony Morgan

Last year’s concert sold out. Now, The Harlem Spirit of Gospel by Anthony Morgan returns to Cosmopolite for the fifth time – and what began as a single concert visit has become a cherished Christmas tradition for many.

Led by Anthony Morgan, with Pastor Renee F. Washington Gardner of Memorial Baptist Church in Harlem as spiritual director, the ensemble fills the room with gospel as it is meant to be experienced: intimate, powerful and full of life. Soaring voices and driving rhythms meet an audience that rarely stays seated for long.

The repertoire moves between traditional and contemporary gospel, jazz, pop and R&B. At the heart of the music is a message of faith, hope and togetherness – carried by an energy that makes people sing, dance and enter the Christmas season feeling a little lighter at heart.

The ensemble features hand-picked singers from New York’s gospel scene, several of whom have received Grammy nominations. Over the years, its members have performed and collaborated with some of the biggest names in music history, including Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Diana Ross, Sting and Billy Joel.
