Thomas Strønen’s Extended Ground feat. Fredrik Høyer og Håvard Aufles

Thomas Strønen’s Extended Ground feat. Fredrik Høyer and Håvard Aufles comes to Cosmopolite Scene.

The band has previously collaborated with guests such as Nils Petter Molvær, Christian Wallumrød and Anja Lauvdal. Extended Ground creates beats unlike anything you’ve heard before. Ten drummers stretch ideas of groove and rhythm in every direction. “You feel like dancing, but you’re not quite sure where to place your feet.” The ensemble performs compositions by Strønen, arranged spontaneously through signs and signals during the live performance. Although much of the music is composed in advance, it continuously shifts direction through the interaction with Fredrik and Håvard, using cues and a carefully rehearsed methodology. This gives the ensemble an elasticity and human dimension that can only be performed by living beings.

Both as an actor and playwright, Fredrik Høyer is best known for his monologue-based works, including Grønlandsūtraen and Jordopphimlesang at the National Theatre. As a playwright and author, he has written numerous stage productions, music albums, films and books. As an actor, he is also known from film and television, including 22 July and Erik Poppe’s The Emigrants. Slam poet and actor Fredrik Høyer is one of the most original voices in contemporary theatre.

Håvard Aufles is one of the strong younger keyboardists in the Norwegian jazz scene, working at the intersection of electronica, pop and jazz.

Extended Ground and drummer Thomas Strønen are exactly the intuitive and rhythmic powerhouse needed to give the music strength and lift it toward the surface and the light — now taking the stage at Cosmopolite.

Extended Ground is a percussion ensemble made up of drummers connected to the Norwegian Academy of Music.
