Ibrahim Maalouf & Trumpets of Michel-Ange

Ibrahim Maalouf is widely regarded as one of the most groundbreaking and charismatic trumpeters and composers of our time. He fills major concert halls around the world – from the Philharmonie de Paris to leading festivals across Asia and Latin America – and has built a devoted global following drawn to his unique blend of virtuosity, emotion, and curiosity. This spring, the Oslo audience will have a rare opportunity to experience him in a far more intimate setting at Cosmopolite, where several musicians will share the stage – including multiple trumpets.

His latest project, T.O.M.A – Trumpets of Michel-Ange, is a musical and philosophical journey where folklore and modernity meet. The album, which follows two GRAMMY nominations, represents a new phase in Maalouf’s artistry – merging traditional Eastern rhythms and melodies with jazz, classical influences, and contemporary soundscapes. The result is a musical celebration that bridges generations, cultures, and forms of expression.

“A startling new voice in contemporary jazz” – The Guardian

“With his evocative use of dynamics and catchy main themes, his trumpet told stories that have a broad appeal … Equally at home playing mainstream jazz riffs or Arabic maqam, the warm tone of his playing created a sense of intimacy in the big venue.” – The Jazz Mann

T.O.M.A is also the name of Maalouf’s own trumpet, developed in collaboration with French instrument makers. With its distinctive design and an additional valve that allows for quarter tones, the instrument opens new melodic possibilities and a richer tonal palette – a musical tool that challenges the boundaries of what a trumpet can express.

Ibrahim Maalouf is known for creating music that is both challenging and accessible, sophisticated and deeply human. His concerts are more than performances – they are encounters between people, emotions, and cultures.

When he takes the stage at Cosmopolite on April 8, he invites the audience into his world of improvisation, energy, and boundless creativity. It will be a rare opportunity to experience one of the most original voices in contemporary jazz and intercultural music – up close.
