Carminho
Carminho is widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in fado today – an artist who bridges tradition and contemporary expression with remarkable clarity and emotional depth. She now returns to Cosmopolite, a stage where she has previously moved audiences in unforgettable ways.
Raised in a household where fado was a way of life, Carminho began performing the Lisbon tradition early on. Her debut album Fado (2009) became an instant milestone, going platinum and later being named Best Album of the Year by the international music magazine Songlines, who wrote:
"Carminho has a voice both beautifully translucent and stunning in its emotional charge. It’s impossible not to break when in the presence of this remarkable performer." — Songlines
Since then, she has collaborated with some of the most celebrated names in Portuguese and Brazilian music, including Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, and Maria Bethânia. She stands today as one of the rare artists who can renew the language of fado without severing it from its roots.
"CARMINHO, the singer who breathes new life into the tradition genre." — Rolling Stone
Her artistic journey continues with the release of her new album Eu vou morrer de amor ou resistir, released on October 10, where Carminho once again weaves tradition and modern expression into a luminous and emotionally charged musical landscape.
Carminho is not only a vocalist — she is an interpreter, a storyteller, a presence. This may be why artists from entirely different musical worlds gravitate toward her. As Spanish superstar Rosalía put it:
"I love Carminho. I always sang her songs when I was playing at the bars. It would be amazing to record a fado album." — Rosalía
Marisa Monte describes her this way:
"She impresses with a deep and light voice at the same time, with an imposing presence on stage, mastering her art with authority. She loves to sing and inspires a love for music." — Marisa Monte
And Caetano Veloso distills it to pure essence:
"Just being next to Carminho and hearing her sing is already a heavenly thing." — Caetano Veloso
In 2023, Carminho delivered a moving live performance in Yorgos Lanthimos’ award-winning film Poor Things, and that same year she was invited onstage by Coldplay in Coimbra to perform “Coimbra” in front of thousands.
