The Congos
The Congos are bona fide legends of Jamaican music – one of the last groups to have remained in their original lineup since the 1970s. Their unity and musical cohesion is evident during their concerts, which become Rastafarian masses, centered around their exceptional vocal harmonies.
Cedric Myton, Ashanti Roy, Watty Burnett, and Talash, the most recent arrival, are true Rastas who live and act in accordance with the image they convey and who have remained close to their roots and principles. Their fame was built around the legendary album Heart of the Congos recorded at Lee "Scratch" Perry's legendary Black Ark studio, which contains gems such as "La-La Bam Bam," "Open Up The Gate," and "Congoman," and especially the classic "Fisherman," which is considered by Rolling Stone magazine to be one of the ten best reggae songs of all time.
They have been less prolific in recent years, but recent albums like Swinging Bridge and Back In The Black Ark (recorded again with Lee Perry), contain timeless songs, such as "Ten Million Chariots," "Garden of Life," and "Old Time Friend." Ever tireless, they are still working on new stuff in the studio, and their concerts showcase a band that shows no sign of letting go. To be able to host them at Oslo World 2025 is an honor – and their concert will surely be one of the highlights of the festival.
