Todd Rundgren
Bar Souk åpner 18:00
For nearly 60 years, Todd Rundgren has moved freely between the roles of songwriter, singer, rock star, guitar virtuoso, producer, and innovator. From the 1960s pop band The Nazz to the early solo classic Something/Anything? (1972) – featuring timeless hits like “Hello It’s Me” and “I Saw the Light” – to the more experimental and progressive works with the band Utopia and his many conceptual solo albums, Rundgren has continually pushed the boundaries of what pop and rock music can and should be. He is at once classic rock and its complete opposite, always with unmistakable energy and presence.
As a producer, he has left his mark on iconic albums such as Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell, XTC’s Skylarking, and The New York Dolls’ self-titled debut. As an artist, he has consistently forged his own path, both musically and technologically. A pioneer in digital recording and distribution, and an advocate for interactive music far ahead of his time, his influence can be heard from Prince to Daft Punk. In 2015, it was only natural that he created a psychedelic electronica album with Norwegian musicians Emil Nikolaisen and Hans Peter Lindstrøm.
With a repertoire spanning soul, glam, power pop, psychedelic rock, synth, and experimental pop, Todd Rundgren is a musical chameleon who has always managed to stay one step ahead. Live, he is equal parts charming storyteller and virtuoso performer – an artist who continues to deliver with curiosity, sharpness, and unwavering integrity. Every tour is different: with an enormous catalog of melodic hits and deep cuts to explore, he has the freedom to avoid stagnation. Live, his songs, often recorded solo in the studio, can blossom anew.
His brilliant live band includes longtime collaborators Prairie Prince (The Tubes) on drums and Kasim Sulton (Utopia) on bass/vocals.
