Katia Guerreiro

"Katia Guerreiro should hereon be considered one of the great fado singers!" - Arne Berg, NRK

"Fado sings about life," says Katia Guerreiro, thereby excluding that Fado is not just about saudade, sadness, and tragedy.

Guerreiro performs at Cosmopolite songs from her latest album "Mistura" (2022), which according to the artist herself is about her home and her life. It's a mixture of saudade, voices, colors, and sounds - about places that will always live in her heart, about parties, loneliness, promises, and disappointments.

"Katia Guerreiro is the queen of repressed emotions. The Queen" - Arne Berg, NRK

The concert will also be a retrospective glance of her career, and a showcase of Portuguese music, poetry, and the soul of the portugese people.

The singer is one of Portugal's most well-known fadistas, and she began playing music early in life. As a teenager, she began playing the "violin de terra," a traditional instrument from the Azores, the volcanic island group where she grew up. She also sang folklore in the ensemble "Rancho Folclórico de Santa Cecília."

Poetry is central in Guerreiro's artistry. When she selects repertoire, it's always from the greatest names in Portuguese literature in combination with new talents and popular poets from the fado world.

"As a fadista, Guerreiro is undoubtedly a leader. Her voice is immediately recognizable, with deep, earthy tones and the ease with which she delivers the songs, sometimes soft and seductive, other times filled with passion." - BBC
