Hermanos Gutierréz

Cinematic guitar brothers.

When you listen to Hermanos Gutiérrez, the composer Frédéric Chopin’s words of wisdom easily springs to mind: “Nothing is more beautiful than a guitar, save perhaps two”. There is a shared understanding between these two guitar players, an intimate core to their otherwise panoramic music. With whiffs of surf rock and desert blues, Hermanos Gutiérrez is music for wide open spaces, with a healthy dose of inspiration from the late, great Ennio Morricone, or the vibes you get from the soundtrack to a movie by Jarmusch or Lynch.

The brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez are the sons of a Swiss father and an Ecuadorian mother. Although eight years separates them, they eventually found common ground, playing guitar together. Their debut album, 8 Años, was named after their age difference. It was meant as a keepsake, something they could enjoy with their family and friends, but as it turned out, a lot more people were interested. Several albums followed, and in 2022 they worked with star producer Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) on El Bueno Y El Malo - a release which is a vivid demonstration of the musicality and mutual respect in the interplay of the two brothers. The same things can be said for their concerts, and we are delighted to host them at this year’s Oslo World.
