“Branco has her own sense of dreamy immersion, a reflection of the Portuguese spirit and her own vulnerability”, was a descriptive phrase written by the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet in a review of Cristina Branco. The singer has performed in Norway several times, and the Norwegian audience has welcomed the warm but still melancholic voice of Branco into their hearts.
2022 marks the artists 25th jubilee as an artist, and we can look back on 17 albums, and endless numbers of concert and festival appearances around the world. The year of her jubilee Cristina Branco released the album «Amoras numa Tarde de Outono» together with pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva, using material the duo has created over a 20 year long collaboration.
Branco is not a “purista” of fado, she rather fusions tradition with contemporary musical styles and uses texts from well-known Portuguese poets.
“One of the most beautiful voices of Portuguese music” - TIME OUT (PT)
"Cristina Branco gives a new life to Portuguese folklore and enriches fado with jazz and world music" FRANCE MUSIQUE (FR)
Fado is urban folk music from Portuguese coastal cities. Fado means “fate”, and it is exactly the life story and destiny of fellow humans that Branco is famous for telling so emphatically. By breaking conventions, Branco brings new expressions and interpretations to fado, sung with longing, sensitivity, elegance, and seduction.
