Marianne Sveen
Releasekonsert - Next Of Kin

Six years after Marianne Sveen left the stage with Katzenjammer for the last time, the solo album Next Of Kin is released. «- I have written and recorded this album for the last five years. But it really feels like I've been making this my whole life »

After ten years as a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter in the successful group Katzenjammer, which had been almost all her life since 2005, and which took them out into the world where they sold for gold and played for full houses and sold out festivals from England and Germany to Australia to the United States, Marianne chose to leave the group. It was time to move on. To cultivate the music that grew on the inside, which was so different from the one she played on the outside.

It is a completely different side of Sveen's audience compared to the one that appeared in Katzenjammer. When she left the band, it was to embrace the new project with her whole being. A number of songs had come into the world in recent years, and Marianne, who is also a trained nurse, took shifts on a 24-hour post in mental health while she worked on completing the album.

And with that, the album took a whole new turn. In encounters with patients and their strong stories, Sveen began to reflect on the definition of next of kin - Next of kin.

So she threw away everything she had written by then. And started all over again.

On this album, the songs and the production are in the center. Led by Marianne's boundless voice, accompanied by a mainly acoustic soundscape where the symphonic and cinematic set the mood and framework for the stories being told.

The album is produced by Marianne herself and with her she has a star team of musicians.

"-I have probably occasionally felt that I have mostly been described as a singer and an entertainer, as I am. But I have always known a stronger identity to be a composer and songwriter. Create soundscapes, tell stories and produce an atmosphere that underpins the story. So it probably feels important to me that people get to see who I really am. That I'm not just a female on stage who can shout loudly, make people laugh or sing as best I can. Because it's just a small part of who I am. And now this album is in a way the rest of me. "
