Warsaw Village Band

The Warsaw Village Band is one of Poland’s most outstanding musical groups. The band samples inspiration from traditional folk music in their home country and mixes it with modern compositions. Warsaw Willage enriches the sound of traditional musical instruments and their typical female vocal, using a modern trumpet, bass, and percussion. This unique mix has opened many doors for the band. They have performed at world-famous venues and festivals, created movie soundtracks, received Grammy-nominations alongside numerous other achievements! This far, the group has visited four continents, and they are not stopping just yet…

Just after the band initiation, they started receiving acclaims for their work. The debut album “Hop sa sa” was named best folk release of the year by Polish Radio. The band earned a BBC World music award for their second album People Spring.  In 2006 the band won their very first Fryderyk Award (Polish Grammy Award). To this day The Warsaw Village Band has released nine albums. Their latest release, Waterduction, was not only well received in Poland, but all over the world. For Waterduction the group won best folkalbum in 2020 by Polish Radio Festival – New Tradition, “Best in Europe” on Transglobal World Music Chart and a first place in Music Charts Europe. For the same album the group won a “Fryderyk Award” – their sixth prize of this kind thus far.

After collaborating with groups and artists such as Hedningarna, Mercedes Peon, Kayhan Kalhor, Ustad Liaquat Khan, playing concerts in 30 countries and receiving numerous prizes, Warsaw Village is seeking inspiration across polish villages, visiting old masters and tributing the deep roots of polish music.

This year, after two decades of success, the group is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Liveshows are Warsaw Village Bands greatest strength, and on the 6th of may Oslo and Cosmopolite Scene is the lucky destination for the wonderful and unique group.

The Polish constitution day 3rd of May is celebrated at the concert

On the 3rd of May in 1791 the polish parliament signed its first constitution. This was the first legal act of its kind in Europe, and second after the constitution of the USA, in the world. Although provisions of the Constitution has not been implemented in practise and the Union of Poland and Lithunania has lost its sovereignty only 4 years after the adoption of this act, the Constitution of 3rd May has been, and remains, a symbol of long democratic tradition of both countries.
